Review of Oak Harbor, Washington

The School's are horrible.

The new high school addition looks great, but the quality of the education is lacking. The worst I would have to say, is the English dept. All of the senior parents were told that we would have to help our students write their college application letters, because they didnt know how to write a paper correctly. I have seen students (not just my own) turn in a paper that has grammar, puncutation, and spelling mistakes come home with an A. There is no accountability. It is just passing the student to the next class so that the graduation rates are higher. I have started to homeschool some, and parents who can afford it, move their students to private school. Except for that and the dreary rain, Oak Harbor is an awesome community.

So I am an actual former student of Oak Harbor Elementary, that uniform school. (Not sure if it still is.) I am 22 years old now, and I STILL have what I feel is PTSD in some form from a teacher there. I don't want to name drop out of respect for what she taught, so I'll call her Ms.V. She hated my mom, which tbh is understandable, but took the hatred out on me. She shredded my papers, homework and all classwork I did and then claimed I never turned it in. My mother would see my grade and not believe me, because of course, I'm the kid. She went in one morning and WATCHED me hand in all the work she had had me redo (my mother, not the teacher) and then saw in disbelief the next day an email saying she didn't get the assignments. My mom believed me after that and switched my teachers. I don't know exactly why that memory stuck with me, but it has.
